The correlation function of radio sources

چکیده

We investigate the large-scale clustering of radio sources in the Green Bank and ParkesMIT-NRAO 4.85GHz surveys by measuring the angular two-point correlation function w(θ). Excluding contaminated areas, the two surveys together cover 70 per cent of the whole sky. We find both surveys to be reasonably complete above 50mJy. On the basis of previous studies, the radio sources are galaxies and radio-loud quasars lying at redshifts up to z ∼ 4, with a median redshift z ∼ 1. This provides the opportunity to probe large-scale structures in a volume far larger than that within the reach of present optical and infrared surveys. We detect a clustering signal w(θ) ≈ 0.01 for θ = 1◦. By assuming an evolving power-law spatial correlation function in comoving coordinates ξ(rc, z) = (rc/r0) −γ (1 + z), where γ = 1.8, and the redshift distribution N(z) of the radio galaxies, we constrain the r0–ǫ parameter space. For ‘stable clustering’ (ǫ = 0), we find the correlation length r0 ≈ 18 h −1 Mpc, larger than the value for nearby normal galaxies and comparable to the cluster-cluster correlation length.

The Phoenix radio survey: the angular correlation function

Using the Phoenix radio survey, a homogeneous survey selected at 1.4GHz and covering an area of ≈3 deg, we analyse the clustering of the sub-mJy radio population using angular correlation function analysis. Extensive simulations are carried out to investigate the significance of the estimated angular correlation amplitudes. Our analysis show that for the S1.4 > 0.5mJy sub-samples the radio sour...

Cross-correlation of the 2-10 keV XRB with radio sources: constraining the large-scale structure of the x-ray background

We present cross-correlation analyses of the HEAO 2È10 keV di†use X-ray map with both the combined GB6/Parkes-MIT-NRAO (GB6-PMN) 5 GHz and the FIRST 1.4 GHz radio surveys. The crosscorrelation functions (CCFs) of both radio surveys with the unresolved X-ray background were detected at the 5 p level. While the large angular resolution (3¡) of the X-ray map makes it difficult to separate the cont...

Evolution in the bias of faint radio sources to z ∼ 2 . 2

Quantifying how the baryonic matter traces the underlying dark matter distribution is key to both understanding galaxy formation and our ability to constrain the cosmological model. Using the cross-correlation function of radio and near-infrared galaxies, we present a largescale clustering analysis of radio galaxies to z ∼ 2.2. We measure the angular auto-correlation function of Ks < 23.5 galax...

TDL-based Wideband Beamforming for Radio Sources Close to the Array Endfire

Uniform linear array (ULA)-based tapped-delay line (TDL) structure has good performance metrics when the signal sources are located at the middle angles. It offers poor performance when the signal sources are close to the array endfire. In this paper, a new approach is proposed which offers higher performance and desired beamforming on TDL structure when the wideband uncorrelated radio sources ...

Estimating the Number of Wideband Radio Sources

In this paper, a new approach for estimating the number of wideband sources is proposed which is based on RSS or ISM algorithms. Numerical results show that the MDL-based and EIT-based proposed algorithm havea much better detection performance than that in EGM and AIC cases for small differences between the incident angles of sources. In addition, for similar conditions, RSS algorithm offers hi...
